A story of love, devotion and second chances
Dogs have an amazing capacity for love. Sometimes, two dogs arrive at Alaqua Animal Refuge with a strong bond, a relationship of love and support. This is the story of Marigold and Poppy, two terrier mixes, around 10 pounds each. We share this story, with love, in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
They arrived at Alaqua, on a hot summer day. They were frightened and withdrawn, but they had each other. One supporting and comforting the other. It was a close bond, so Alaqua knew it was best to keep them together. After a lot of love and rehabilitation, their personalities began to emerge. Marigold, a loving and faithful girl, her sweet disposition blossoming when she’s with her favorite person. Poppy, a protector of Marigold, and loyal companion to his chosen human. Both love being with people, and snuggling. Two faithful companions, that are also devoted to each other.
Marigold and Poppy share a kennel at Alaqua, which they always keep tidy. They enjoy their time in the playground, where they play well with the other dogs. The latest chapter in their story, was a decision to send them to the Unconditional Love Program, Yes, they are in prison, but not like Bonnie and Clyde. This program is teaching them to be good canine citizens, to learn their commands, and to gain self confidence.
The love that Marigold and Poppy have for each other has helped them to survive. We hope that once they return from the Unconditional Love Program, they find a loving home of their own. Could that person be you? Please come visit them, they will capture your heart. Now that you know their story, you might be the one to make their Valentine’s wish come true.
Alaqua Animal Refuge has placed nearly 11,000 animals since its inception in 2007. Every animal that is adopted from our shelter enables us to rescue another animal in its place.
