Dear Humane Society Supporters,
The Humane Society of Bay County is one of the numerous businesses across the area feeling the social and economic impacts of the worldwide public health emergency in effect. Up until this point we have been managing to operate the shelter on a day by day financial basis, but we can no longer afford to keep the doors open while the economy struggles.
Starting April 27th, the shelter will temporarily close. It is disappointing that we have to close our doors for a bit, but we have to do what’s best for the animals, staff, and the organization in the long run. There’s so much unknown right now, information keeps coming out and changing every day.
Because we a are non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, we operate on donations and the services that we provide. Since our services have taken a downturn, we’ve had to rely more and more on donations – which have been extremely low, and the shelter cannot operate on just donations as there is no way to know when we’ll receive a donation or what the amount will be.
We’ve got most of our animals adopted out, there are a few dogs left. Those pups can be viewed here, and below. We’ve also been working with local rescues to place any animals that have not been adopted out by the 27th.
SERVICES STILL OFFERED
We are still committed to helping the community during this time. Our
community food bank which provides pet food for those who are lower-income, who are suffering a temporary economic hardship or are on permanent disability, will continue.
* We will offer community days where will offer supplies free
* First community day is scheduled on May 2nd, at the shelter
* Details will be added to our
website and
Facebook page
Shot clinics will still be offered to provide low-cost shots services to the community. Those clinics also provide microchipping, nail trim, and flea prevention.
* Shot clinics will be held throughout Bay County and at our shelter.
Events will be held when it is safe to do so.
* Furry Friend 5K is currently scheduled for May 30th.
We will continue to support other animal rescues as much as possible.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We still will be accepting donations. We will continually evaluate our financial situation so we can safely re-open and remain open. Donations will be a part of our ability to re-open. If you can
