Job fair for veterans

90Works, a nonprofit serving the Emerald Coast, is set to host a job fair for veterans, called Deployment to Employment, on September 18 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Pensacola Wahoo Stadium. “We are excited to bring this event back and are looking forward to expanding the number of vendors and recruiters in attendance in order to provide additional employment opportunities to veterans throughout Northwest Florida,” said Executive Director of 90Works, Cate Jordan. In its first year hosting the event at Wahoo’s Stadium, 90Works is working to expand the event, which brought in more than 300 veterans and 60 recruiters in past years by bringing on new businesses as recruiters and vendors. “The mission of the Studer Family of Companies is ‘to improve the quality of life in our community,’” said Shannon Reeves of the Blue Wahoos Stadium. “We at the Blue Wahoos Stadium are thrilled for the opportunity to host such an impactful, meaningful event that so closely aligns with that mission.” The Pensacola-based nonprofit is partnering with the Panhandle Warrior Project whose mission aligns closely with what this event will accomplish. The event also has support from local hair stylists throughout the panhandle as well as the University of West Florida’s Office of Career Development and Community Engagement to prepare attendees for upcoming interviews with fresh haircuts and a resume writing workshop. “This event provides us the opportunity to further our mission in the community. Gaining employment is a vital step in achieving self-sufficiency and stability and to reduce poverty and homelessness,” said Jordan. “We appreciate the community coming together to support these efforts.” Details for this event are quickly coming together, and attendees can expect a complimentary breakfast and inspirational words from guest speaker, veteran, Vice President of the 90Works board of directors, and President of Guardian Six– a small business that analyzes national security issues and navigates the defense marketplace– General John Adams. Still, 90Works is searching for businesses to sponsor and get involved with the event, giving them exposure to veterans and other businesses in the community all while giving back to those who served our country faithfully.
