Freeport City Pool Lifeguard Receives Lifesaving Award
For Immediate Release
August 10, 2012
Freeport Mayor Mickey Marse today issued a Lifesaving Award to Freeport City Pool Lifeguard Collin Myrick. Myrick was recognized for his quick and exceptional response to the near drowning of a 12 year old boy and his mother at the pool on August 2nd.
At approximately 12:40 on that day, a youth at the Freeport City Pool began to struggle and went beneath the water. His mother who was in the water nearby attempted to help her son but in turn was pulled under by the boy. Responding immediately to the situation, Lifeguard Collin Myrick entered the pool and affected the rescue of both victims. Freeport Fire Rescue and Walton County Fire/EMS also responded to the scene but because of Myrick’s quick actions neither victim required medical attention.
