(NWS) Tallahassee has confirmed that an
EF-1 tornado touched down in
Walton County on
January 25, 2026, impacting areas along
U.S. Highway 331 North in
According to the NWS damage survey, the tornado produced estimated peak winds of
95 mph during a severe weather event that moved through the area Sunday afternoon.
Tornado Path and Timeline
- Touchdown: Approximately 1:23 PM CST
- Starting Point: About 2 miles southeast of Liberty
- End Point: About 3 miles southeast of Liberty
- Duration: Approximately 2 minutes
- Path Length: 1.09 miles
- Maximum Width: Up to 800 yards
The tornado initially touched down just west of Kings Lake Road and moved east through a residential neighborhood along and just north of Paradise Island Drive before lifting as it approached U.S. Highway 331. No additional damage was identified beyond that point due to swampy and inaccessible terrain.
Damage Assessment
Most damage along the tornado’s path was consistent with
EF-0 intensity, including downed trees and minor structural impacts.
EF-1 damage was identified in two locations. Near the beginning of the path, two large trees were uprooted. Near the end of the track, a single-family residence sustained significant roof damage, including substantial loss of roofing material and severe damage to the home’s porch. Winds at this location were estimated at 95 mph, the strongest observed during the survey.
No Injuries or Fatalities Reported
Officials confirmed that
no injuries or fatalities occurred as a result of this tornado.
Emergency Response and Recovery Efforts
Walton County Emergency Management (WCEM) responded promptly to storm damage reports by conducting on-the-ground damage assessments, coordinating with partner agencies, and connecting impacted residents with available recovery resources.
“While any tornado is concerning, we are grateful that no injuries or loss of life occurred during this event,” said Jeff Goldberg, Director of WCEM.
“This response highlighted the importance of strong coordination between our local agencies and our state partners at the National Weather Service.”
WCEM also worked with nonprofit partners, including the American Red Cross, Cajun Navy, and the Florida Baptist Association, to assist with case management and debris removal efforts.
