FREEPORT, FL – Alaqua Animal Refuge will host a four-day Jin Shin Jyutsu for You and Animal Companion class Oct. 9-12 at its Freeport campus, 155 Dugas Way.
The class will bring together the ancient, gentle, hands-on art of Jin Shin Jyutsu with the joy of sharing it among rescue animals. The practice helps restore balance and harmony, serving as self-help for calming and healing the body and as a method to ease stress in animals, support recovery, and build trust, ultimately making them more adoptable.
Adele Leas, who pioneered the work with domesticated animals more than 37 years ago, will lead the class. Leas has partnered with Alaqua for more than 14 years, regularly teaching at the refuge on Florida’s Emerald Coast.
“This class is always a homecoming for me, and it’s powerful to see how Jin Shin Jyutsu creates harmony, health, and balance for both people and animals,” Leas said.
Laurie Hood, founder and president of Alaqua Animal Refuge, said the organization is grateful for Leas’s continued partnership.
“We are honored to once again welcome Adele Leas to Alaqua to share the healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu,” Hood said. “Her work demonstrates the profound connection between energy, touch, and the well-being of both people and animals. This class is not only educational, it’s an inspiring reminder of how compassion and intention can create true healing.”
The course will include classroom instruction, self-help practice (some sessions held at the beach, weather permitting), and hands-on work with Alaqua’s domestic and farm animals, including dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, goats, and tortoises.

About Alaqua Animal Refuge
Alaqua Animal Refuge is a no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary, located in the panhandle of Florida. As the Southeast’s premier 501(c)3 refuge, Alaqua believes that every abused, neglected and homeless animal deserves a second chance. Committed to providing protection, shelter, and care to animals in need, this private, non-profit Refuge also offers an adoption center, veterinary clinic, educational outreach, and community programs that extend far beyond their geographic location. Since its inception in 2007, Alaqua, led by Founder Laurie Hood, has become a recognized leader in animal rescue, welfare, cruelty prevention, and advocacy. Alaqua is currently in the midst of a capital campaign to complete the building of their one-of-a-kind facility—the first in the United States—on 100 acres. The new facility and sanctuary will allow Alaqua to continue to do the important work of animal rescue and rehabilitation, as well as be an educational and training center for animal welfare advocates as a place that will inspire, empower, and educate others to make change in our society and recreate the model worldwide.
