SINFONIA GULF COAST EDUCATION & OUTREACH ASSISTANT MIRANDA ROJAS SELECTED

FOR PRESTIGIOUS TEACHING ARTISTS TRAINING INSTITUTE (TATI) COHORT

Sinfonia Gulf Coast is proud to announce that Miranda Rojas, Education & Outreach Assistant, has been selected to participate in the 2024-2025 lab cohort program of the Teaching Artists Training Institute (TATI). This prestigious program is designed to equip Teaching Artists with the tools and skills necessary to support over 20,000 underrepresented students and communities across the nation.

The TATI Lab Cohort is the signature training program that brings together up to 60 Teaching Artists annually to collaborate, learn, and reflect on their teaching practice. Over the course of nine months, cohort members engage in live sessions with expert clinicians covering topics in planning, instruction, and cultural equity. Rojas also will have the opportunity to attend an in-person regional practicum in Baltimore, MD, and apply for a week-long learning retreat in Miami in the spring.

“I am thrilled to have been selected for this incredible fellowship opportunity. My participation in this cohort will help me refine my teaching practices, both pedagogically and socially, so that I can best support the diverse group of students that I serve through Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s music education programs,” said Miranda Rojas.

Rojas joined Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s education department in August 2023. A dedicated educator and performer, she was previously a member of the Carriola Quartet, Sinfonia’s Quartet-in-Residence. Rojas, who holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Florida State University, also runs a private studio, Rojas Strings, where she teaches violin, viola, and cello. Her roles include Principal Second Violin with the Panama City Symphony Orchestra and section musician with Sinfonia Gulf Coast, Pensacola Symphony, Gulf Coast Symphony (MS), and Albany Symphony. Rojas also serves as Music Director for HERo, a Tallahassee-based organization that amplifies women’s voices in music and promotes works by women composers.

Educational outreach remains at the forefront of Sinfonia’s mission. Since it was established in 2007, Sinfonia Gulf Coast has served more than 200,000 children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties. Examples of its impactful educational community outreach include musicians/guest artists in schools, free orchestra concerts, bus transportation for students, Sinfonia Youth Orchestra program, ensembles-in-residence partnerships with Florida State University, Link Up concerts for third through fifth graders in partnership with Carnegie Hall, Paint the Music initiative (in partnership with Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation), Arts in Medicine initiative with Sacred Heart Hospital and more.
