Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) adds to its 2023 fall season with two new Unplugged live music concerts. The “listening lounge”-style concert series showcases singer-songwriters, individual musicians, duos, and small bands performing intimate acoustic sets.

Unplugged will showcase American country music singer-songwriter Erin Enderlin on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and country/roots rock duo Capps & Hughes on Wednesday, Nov. 1 on the Sunset Terrace of Henderson Beach Resort in Destin. Both concerts are at 6 p.m. The concerts are offered as a bundle for $75. Tickets include complimentary valet service, light bites, and a cash bar. MKAF members receive a 10 percent savings on the bundle.

Proceeds benefit MKAF ArtsReach initiatives including the ground-breaking arts therapy program Warrior Arts, Arts for All Abilities, and arts education outreach throughout Okaloosa, Walton, and Bay Counties.

“Our first Unplugged benefit concert last June featuring Adam Ezra and Corrina Smith was so well received, we partnered with our friends at the Henderson to stage more acoustic sets,” said MKAF CEO Demetrius Fuller. “With limited seats on a terrace overlooking beautiful Henderson State Park and the Gulf beyond at sunset, this is a wonderful way to gather with friends to experience live music — add a cocktail and delicious food and you have a memorable evening.”

Born and raised in Conway, Arkansas, Erin Enderlin is an American Country Music artist and songwriter based in Nashville. Her songs have been recorded by Alan Jackson, Lee Ann Womack, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, and Terri Clark. She has also twice appeared on the Country Throwdown Tour as a member of their Bluebird Cafe songwriter stage. Enderlin’s singing and storytelling are front and center on her album Faulkner County, which takes its name from the place where she grew up. The project, which follows the 2017 release Whiskeytown Crier, compiles a four-part series of EPs Enderlin released throughout 2019. In 2020, she was featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s Unbroken Circle section of the American Currents exhibit — dedicated to contemporary artists with breakthrough years.

Grayson Capps was born in Opelika, Alabama, and raised in Brewton, Alabama, as a child, but moved to Fairhope Alabama for high school. He became interested in theater when in Fairhope and received a degree in theater from Tulane University. Capps, a singer-songwriter guitarist released his first solo album, If You Knew My Mind, in 2005 on Hyena Records. His second solo album, Wail & Ride, was released in 2006 on the same label, followed by Rott & Roll in 2008. Rott & Roll was recorded with a band known as the Stumpknockers. Scarlett Roses was released in December 2017. AllMusic noted that “Scarlett Roses is the roots rock record we’ve been waiting for from Capps.” Capps released South Front Street a career retrospective in 2020. Upon its release, AmericanaUK called Capps, “The thinking man’s songwriter, the troubadours troubadour.”

Corky Hughes began his professional career playing guitar throughout the South in the ‘70s with R&B artist Theodore Arthur Jr. and then later with his own rock group, Excalibur. In 1984, he became lead guitarist for legendary rockers, Black Oak Arkansas and toured throughout the U.S. After moving to Atlanta, the next year, he played and recorded with Tone Poets, Chris Edmonds, and Darryl Rhoades and the Mighty Men From Glad (with whom he appears on the Brendan O’Brien produced album No Glove, No Love). Since returning in 1992 to his home in Mobile, Alabama, Corky has played guitar for a diverse group of artists including Kung Fu Mama, Carlos Washington’s Giant People, Star Cullars, Molly Thomas, Jimmy Hall and Wet Willie, and Bo Diddley. Hughes can also be heard on Beverly Jo Scott’s Coming Home CD, Lisa Mills’ I’m Changing, and violinist Tom Morley’s recent release, Raven’s Wing (A Curious Collection of Fiddle Tunes), as well as various projects with former Kung Fu Mama band mates, the Lost Cause Minstrels.
