A Theatre for Young Audiences Performance
“It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how.” Get ready for all the tricks on stage when you come see Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat – part of Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Theatre for Young Audiences. The show opens Friday, October 14, 2022, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 23. Public performances are October 15 and 22 at 6.00 p.m. and October 16 and 23 at 2:30 p.m. School Field Trips are offered October 14, 19, 20, and 21 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
“The Cat in the Hat knows a lot about that!” Follow everyone’s favorite mischievous cat in this theatrical adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic. From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that The Cat in the Hat is the most adventurous cat that they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and the craziest of ideas, he is certainly loads of fun… but what will mom find when she gets home?
Based on the books by Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss), Adapted by Katie Mitchell.
The cast features Peter Lake as “Cat”. Peter is an internationally performing operatic tenor and actor who debuted in the world premiere of Michael Ching’s Alice Ryley/Anna Hunter this August at the Savannah VOICE Festival. The ensemble also features Dylan Van Slyke, an actor who was born, raised and is based in Panama City, Florida, as “Boy”, Taylor McLaughlin, a Panama City resident and recent graduate of Valdosta State College, as “Sally”, Rebeca Lake, a set and lighting designer, actress, and teaching artist at ECTC, as “Thing” and “Kitten”, Shelby Steverson, an actor, musician, and playwright who has lived in The Panhandle his whole life, as “Fish”, and LeeAnna Studt, a recent resident of the Destin area, as “Thing 1”.
This production is directed by Jason Hedden, set and lighting design by Rebeca Lake, costume design by Anna Fisher, props by Luci Sloan and the Stage Manager is Kortney Adcock.
“We love Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat for many reasons – the rhymes, the tricks, but most of all that it hits on trust, responsibility, and honesty.” said ECTC co-founder Nathanael Fisher.
The performance of Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat will be staged in ECTC’s main space located on the second floor of 560 Grand Boulevard in Grand Boulevard Town Center in Miramar Beach. Tickets to this show are $18 per person for adults, $16 for seniors (55 years old and up)/military and $12 for students (must show ID). There is an additional processing fee for ticket purchases.
