Lunch With a Mission:  Panama City Rescue Mission Community Luncheon

On Monday, January 10th, Panama City Rescue Mission is hosting a FREE Community Luncheon from 10:30am-2:30pm at their Gateway Shelter for Men location, 609 Allen Ave.  Lunch will be served by Mission BBQ on their National Day of Service. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility to see the current state of renovations and get more information about the life-changing services offered by PCRM. Homeless and Veteran Agencies will be on hand to provide resources and services.

The 2019-2020 Point in Time (PIT) Count in our area showed 385 people experiencing homelessness. We know that since the beginning of COVID, that number has risen tremendously. Bay County has many resources to help with homeless, however, the lack of affordable housing has stalled most of those agencies.

After the destruction of Hurricane Michael and an arson fire, the Men’s shelter was forced to close its doors, leaving no place for our community’s homeless men. Now, close to three years later, it is still closed. As the temperature drops this winter, life will become more burdensome for these men.

“This luncheon is to, of course, offer any resources to our homeless, and homeless veterans. But it’s also about opening the doors of the men’s shelter and being transparent with the community about our needs,” says Stephen Fett, President and CEO of Panama City Rescue Mission. “The completion of the men’s shelter can only be accomplished through a community willing to come together”

Since becoming President, Fett has turned PCRM around, changing for the better. From rolling out their new Life Transformation Program last year, to their most recent partnership with Florida Springs Wellness and Recovery Center, and now the renovation of the men’s shelter, Fett and his team have put in countless hours working at both shelters and given hundreds of women a second chance and a new hope at the Women & Children’s shelter.

Panama City Rescue Mission has been a member of the community since 1973. They provide an environment where the compassion and love of Jesus Christ heals and equips people to be successful in overcoming life’s adversities. Their mission is RESCUE, RECOVER, RESTORE-moving people from suffering to flourishing with the gospel-centered life-transformation ministry that empowers people with education, training, resources, and guidance that leads to a life of sobriety, stable employment, and secure housing.
