The Visual & Performing Arts Division of Gulf Coast State College presents Still Life, a group exhibition featuring work by Kevin Arnold, Daniel Mark Cassity, Beth Edwards, Richard Gnann, Pamela Michelle Johnson, PJ Mills, Deborah Pohl, and Carol Scott.
Since its emergence as a distinct genre, still life has been an important facet of Western painting. Strictly defined, a still life is simply a representation of inanimate objects, yet they are so much more. From century to century, and culture to culture, these inanimate arrangements always seem to reflect the ideals and concerns of their times. In the twenty first century, the genre is still relevant and is still a vehicle to define identity, create narrative, provide social commentary, and for pure formal exploration.
The exhibit will run from Friday, October 15 to Friday, November 5, with an opening reception on the evening of October 15 from 5 pm – 7 pm CST. The work will be on display in the Amelia Center Gallery (AC112). • Exhibit timeline: Friday, October 15 to Friday, November 5; Amelia Center (AC112) • Opening reception: Friday, October 15 from 5 pm – 7pm; Amelia Center • Gallery hours are Monday—Thursday, 10 am – 6 pm CST; Friday, 10 am – 4 pm CST • Admission is free and masks are not required but recommended.
