GCSC presents Vantage Point Art Exhibit

Panama City, FL – Gulf Coast State College’s Visual & Performing Arts division is proud to present “Vantage Point” art exhibit.

This exhibition provides a unique “Vantage Point” that explores our relationship with the environment. This work by Maggy Rozycki Hiltner entails a 111 foot embroidery that is full of depictions of blue sky, green grass and white clouds, however, when looking closely more sinister imagery begins to emerge. There are discarded oil drums by the shore, factories billowing smoke and a river on fire. There are also snippets of text with words like “DDT,” “horizon,” “memory” and “bioaccumulation.” The scenery combined with the words asks the audience to consider the toll of our needs, and the resources necessary to take on the world around us.

Hiltner grew up in Pennsylvania and comes from a family of makers: her mother and grandmothers made needle point pillows and quilts, and stitched or knitted clothes and toys. Her father built odd things, cooked outrageous meals and painted murals in their home. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in sculpture with a concentration in fibers from Syracuse University, and was also a Studio Assistant at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. Hinter is a full-time artist living with her husband and two daughters in Red Lodge, MT.Her work has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions in museums and galleries and published in the U.S. and abroad.
