Redd’s Fueling Station restaurant owner, Redd Vizard, recently heard about the Walton County Sheriff Mike Adkinson appeal for backpacks to benefit children in need for the coming school year.
Redd – known as the Singing Bartender, took up up the cause by offering to be a drop off location. Redd posted on facebook, for every bookbag and or bag of supplies brought, Redd will sing any song on the request list for you! Well since she started the campaign, her bar space has been getting less and less due to the fantastic response from the community. Redd kicked off this week long event Thursday night with a great group of ladies from the Santa Rosa Golf and Beach Club and have already collected close to 100 backpacks and a great pile of supplies.
“I cannot believe the response, said Redd, within a couple of days the backpacks came pouring in ! I know this community will continue to bring in the supplies, and I hope my voice goes hoarse from singing the requests. Thanks to everyone for donating, and spreading the word.”
Redd is not stopping though, the appeal will keep going through July 27th. If you wish to donate, the supplies needed include No. 2 pencils, glue sticks, 8 count washable markers, 12 count crayons, highlighters, notebook paper, composition books, folders with brads and pockets, 1 and 2 inch binders, subject notebooks and BACKPACKS.
“There’s nothing more important than the children in our community,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson, during his initial appeal. “This backpack drive gives these kids the boost of confidence they need to tackle the new school year.”
Redd’s is open Tuesday through Saturday 5-11 and has a great menu and live music every night. Redd performs her singing bartender shows on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays, 6:30 to 10.
Donations can also be dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office in DeFuniak Springs or the South Walton Substation in Santa Rosa Beach.
Redd’s Fueling Station is located behind Sally’s By The Sea Store at 2320 Hwy 30A, Santa Rosa Beach Fl 32459.
