About Andrew Weathers Memorial Foundation: On October 17, 2014, Andrew was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Upon his funeral, his family realized the Army lacked a program that would support families revisiting the graves of their loved ones. This realization laid the groundwork for the Andrew Weathers Memorial Foundation. Their mission is to honor families of fallen soldiers by providing trips to Arlington National Cemetery and their purpose is to raise awareness and meet the needs of Special Forces Soldiers and their families.

September 30th is a significant day for the Andrew Weathers Memorial Foundation and for all who served with Andrew. The Foundation was formed after Andrew was killed in action on September 30th, 2014 in the Kajaki Provence of Afghanistan during a 48-hour firefight. Andrew was an 18 Delta on ODA 7221, 7th Special Forces Group. Now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, his family quickly realized the lack of support and opportunity for families to visit the grave of their loved one after the funeral. The Foundation was created to support Gold Star families, raising funds to send them back to Arlington and to honor Andrew’s memory.
