Julie: Good morning…
Redd: Good afternoon! And welcome to Good Morning 30a! How are ya? How ya doing?
Julie: I’m doing great.
Redd: Great! I’m Redd …
Julie: I’m Julie Bloom…
Ditter: …And I’m Ditter Kellen.
Julie: There you go! That’s what I was gonna say.
Redd: We’ve got a great show ahead of us today, so I’m glad you’re here to join us. And our first guest is Ditter Kellen, who is an author.
Julie: A best-selling author.
Redd: A best-selling author.
Julie: Multiple, multiple times.
Redd: She writes sexy novels. So tell us about it!
(mingled laughter)
Ditter: Sexy!
Julie: I mean look at the cover! How could this not be sexy novels?
Ditter: Yes.
Redd: That’s just not real. They don’t just come like that. Seriously.
Julie: They do, they do.
Ditter: A few of them do, but it’s rare.
Redd: I gotta comment. Anyway, yeah, there you go.
Julie: What Lies Beneath. There you go.
Ditter: Yes. Well, this is a sexy novel, but I mean it’s sci-fi, it’s sci-fi, sort of paranormal crossover, post-apocalyptic, um…it’s very sexy!
Julie: And…also…
Ditter: And it takes place in Santa Rosa Beach, in the Gulf, which these are Bracadyte creatures that live in the Gulf of Mexico, and it goes all the way to Navarre.
Julie: Okay, so there you go. Homespun.
Redd: You get a little feeling from it, when you’re reading it you could get a feeling for places…
Ditter: Oh there’s a lot of- yes, there’s a lot of local places in here, as well as these, these take place in Walton County also.
Redd: How fun! How long have you been writing?
Ditter: I just started, I published my first book in 2013.
Julie: So really three years.
Redd: And now you’re on number four?
Ditter: No, I have 12. I didn’t bring them all, I just brought the newest. But no, I have twelve. And Enigma has been in RT Magazine…twice…and in SciFi Magazine, which this baby is the one I’m so proud of. It’s coming out in their next issue too.
Julie: So real national recognition, not just local.
Ditter: Yes. So yeah, this one is selling like hot cakes, I love it. Um…this one was my first solo, and it was actually a serial, it’s called The Seeker, I wrote five different books that I sold separately, and merged them all together into a five book box set that you can pick up for $2.99 on Amazon.
Julie: On Amazon, there you go!
Ditter: Yeah, and this one still sells really well too, but this one is more 50 Shades, you know, yeah.
Redd: Woo-hoo!
Julie: Yeah, we gotta order…
Ditter: Yea, it’s vampires…
Julie: Vampires. Sexy vampires!
Redd: So you’ve only been writing for three years?
Julie: And she’s already multipally selling out.
Redd: So what made you, or inspired you to say well whatever I’m doing now, I need to be a writer? How did that happen?
Ditter: Dawn Montgomery. I was a blogger, and I had a book group on Facebook, where I was kinda reviewing, and trying to advertise for other authors and promote them, and I met Dawn Montgomery, and she’s a USA Today best seller, and we decided to do a book together. We wrote it in less than a month, and it came out in USA Today, the Happily Ever After Blog, and we wrote three or four books together before I branched out on my own. And now I’m putting out a book a month.
Redd: Holy Moley!
Julie: I know, I was just thinking that…there’s a lot going on!
Redd: I was doing the same kind of thing, but it was a little lower regional.
Julie: There you go!
(laughter)
Redd: And they’re all sexy novels. Well this is wonderful, congratulations on your success so quickly!
Julie: They’re all steamy and stuff, and it’s really terrific, yeah.
Redd: So we can get all of your books on Amazon?
Ditter: All of my books are on Amazon, and I’m just now moving some of them to Barnes & Noble’s, Kobo’s, iTunes, but I’ve been exclusively Amazon for a long time.
Redd: That’s wonderful.
Julie: And you have them…they’re all in paperback and…
Ditter: All of them are in paperback, and audio as well.
Julie: Okay, that’s what I was thinking.
Redd: Oh cool!
Julie: Well that’s really exciting! And are you from here originally?
Ditter: Yes.
Julie: You grew up here?
Ditter: Well back and forth, between here and Tampa, which is where this book, The Seeker, takes place, in Tampa.
Julie: Yeah, the address book…
Ditter: Probably why it still sells so well, yeah.
Julie: There you go!
Ditter: Well they’re all very sexy, but this one is probably just is a little bit more Cinemax, I think.
Julie: Go for it!
Redd: More Cinemax, I like that description! ‘What’s that book about? It’s more Cinemax.’
Ditter: It is a Cinemax-y kinda thing, yeah.
Redd: Well Ditter, this is one of the most wonderful…
Julie: Did ya hear that, Cinemax?
Redd: Yeah, that’s right. Well, why not…if you’d like to give us any more information about where we can find your books, go ahead and do that now.
Julie: Or your blogs, and your website.
Ditter: Well, okay. DitterKellen.com, and anything you want to know is on there, including Ditterverse, which I just started in September, and it’s a social media network for the literary world.
Julie: So it’s a forum for…
Redd: It’s a blog for the literary…
Ditter: It’s like Facebook, but it’s strictly for people that are interested in reading, or anything to do…
Redd: With writing, or with publishing, or…
Ditter: …editing, and all that. But Facebook charges you. You have to pay to advertise on Facebook, and a lot of authors just starting out can’t afford to advertise. So I thought I would open up a new social media network for them to be able to go and it’s free.
Redd: Would you spell that please?
Ditter: D-I-T-T-E-R-V-E-R-S-E. Ditterverse.
Redd: We’ll put that up for you. That’s terrific, it’s wonderful.
Julie: So when’s your next one coming out?
Ditter: I have one releasing this month, and I have one releasing next month, also, book three…
Julie: Are they still on the Enigma? Or that series?
Ditter: Well, the Book Two to The Seeker is the release this month, it’s called Shawn. And book three to The Enigma releases next month, it’s called Velcron.
Redd: Okay, terrific. We’ll look for them.
Julie: I would look for him.
Ditter: He’s in Defuniak. He’s on my farm, if you…
Redd: What is that line from Rocky Horror? “I don’t like a man with too many muscles.” “But I didn’t build him for you.” All right, well thank you so much!
Ditter: Thank you!
Redd: And hang around because we have a lot to go today, and we’re gonna have a really good time. In the meantime we’d like to thank Kaleidoscope Theater for being a media sponsor, and we still have some tickets available for their last show.
Julie: The last show was Death By Design.
Redd: Email to anyone@30a.tv. Did I get it right?
(Off Camera): First time ever.
Redd: Holy Moley, first time ever. All right, stick around, we’ll be back!
Julie: Thanks.!
