WCSO ESCORTS WWII VETERAN ON MISSION FROM COAST TO COAST  For Immediate Release April 4, 2016 Walton County, Fla— Ernie Andrus is on a mission. The 92-year-old World War II Navy Veteran is running from the West Coast to the Atlantic Ocean near Brunswick, Georgia to help raise money for the LST 325 Ship Memorial, Inc. The feat is set to take two to four years according to Andrus’ website http://coast2coastruns.com/index.html. He started his journey by touching the Pacific Ocean near San Diego CA., on October 7th, 2013 and plans to touch the Atlantic Ocean near Brunswick two to four years from that point Andrus was one of the crew that brought the LST 325 back from the Isle of Crete, Greece to the United States in 2000-2001 as aired on the History Channel in “The Return of LST 325”.Ernie’s goal is to raise enough money for a D-Day Memorial Service in 2019 to bring one of the last remaining operational LSTs back to Normandy and Beach is on the same location it was beach on Omaha Beach. Thursday April 7th Ernie will begin a leg from at Bel-Air Property on Highway 90 and end at DeFuniak Springs City Hall. Walton County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant James Pittman plans to walk with him a portion of this leg.
