WCSO GIVES AWAY 150+ BACKPACKS AT “CARING FOR KIDS” EVENT
DeFuniak Springs, Fla—In exactly one week children in Walton County will be heading back to school and into to their classes. Now, thanks to the dedicated folks at the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and several generous donors, more than 150 kids will be attending their first day of school with some pep in their step. On Saturday August 1st the Walton County Sheriff’s Office hosted “Caring for Kids”; an event held at the Boys & Girls Club of DeFuniak Springs. Thanks to generous donations from Senator Greg Evers, TrustMark Bank, First National Bank and Trust, Walton County Tax Collector’s Office, Walton County Clerk of Courts, DeFuniak Herald Beach Breeze, Mirror Mirror, Shabby Chic, and so many more… 150+ children received back packs and supplies needed for the start of school and haircuts to freshen up their new look! There was a wide variety of bags to choose from and the kids had a great time choosing the one that was perfect for them! WCSO has been collecting back packs during the entire month of July and Saturday’s event answered the call for many parents needing help this August. “The return on invest when you are helping children is twofold,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson, who suggested the drive in a meeting with his executive staff. “Their confidence is everything.” Lieutenants Angie Hogeboom and Jimmy Fannin headed up the effort alongside Captain Chari Rivers.
WCSO is committed to our community and we hope to continue this effort throughout the school year. We are always accepting donations for the students and look forward to working with different agencies in the future to make this a long standing initiative.
