(Nov. 20, 2012) – Seaside Community Development Corporation (SCDC), the developer of the new urbanist community of Seaside, is pleased to invite you to “Turn on the Town” in Seaside, Florida. The Merchants of Seaside welcome the holidays with events for the entire family on Nov. 23 and 24. Grab your blankets and head down to the Seaside Amphitheater at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, for a holiday edition of Central Square Cinema featuring the Christmas comedy “Elf” on the lawn in Central Square. Holiday events continue on Saturday, November 24th with the Seaside Farmers Market from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The market features a variety of local vendors featuring fresh produce, baked goods, dairy products, native plants and even some special holiday treats. Stop by behind Raw & Juicy in the Amphitheater. New to Seaside this year are on-the-beach photo opportunities with sand sculptors Mark Flynn of Sand Odyssey and Rick and Capri Mungeam of Beach Sand Sculptures. Grab your family, kids and friends and camera or phone and head out to the Seaside beach on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Nov. 23-25, for photos with the sand sculpture. For $10 cash or check, take away your own Seaside holiday photos perfect for Christmas cards, the grandparents, holiday portraits or gifts. Then grab your spot along 30A for the Annual South Walton Christmas Parade. This Seaside and 30A tradition begins at 4 p.m. in front of Seagrove Plaza. Residents and visitors share in the glory as participants march 1.5 miles down Scenic Highway 30A from Seagrove decked in their Christmas best on festive holiday floats. The parade ends in Seaside as visitors welcome Santa to town aboard a vintage fire truck. Parade participants should meet at the Seagrove Plaza at Garrett Realty no later than 3:15 p.m. with decorated entries. Registration for parade participants is required; please contact (850) 231-6107 to receive a registration form. The celebration continues with Turn on the Town at 5 p.m. as Santa and Mrs. Claus take the stage in the Seaside Amphitheater. Santa, master of ceremonies for the evening, will invite all of the kids to join him in front of the stage for a sing-a-long before magically brightening up the town. Then, the countdown begins in unison to “Turn on the Town” and, right on cue, the magnificent 24-foot tree lights up; all of downtown Seaside is illuminated with bright, holiday lights! Following the lighting, bring your camera and have your picture taken with the jolly man from 5:30 – 8 p.m. About Seaside Seaside, built on 80 acres on Florida’s Gulf Coast, is an unincorporated, master-planned community located in South Walton County on Highway 30-A, between Panama City Beach and Destin. Celebrated as the birth place of new urbanism and for its focus on traditional family values, Seaside offers a thriving town center with shopping and dining, all within walkable distance to homes, cottages and offices. According to Newsweek, “Seaside—with its cozy, narrow streets, its jumble of pastel colored homes—is probably the most influential resort community since Versailles.” Consisting of more than 300 homes, many of them vacation rentals, more than 12 restaurants and eateries, and 41 shops and galleries, the town has become the topic of slide lectures in architectural schools and in housing-industry magazines, and is visited by design professionals from throughout the United States. The town rose to global fame as being the main filming location of the movie “The Truman Show.” In April of this year, the American Institute of Architects’ Florida chapter placed the dynamic community on its list of “Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.” For more information, visit www.seasidefl.com or call 850-231-6106.
