Sacred Heart Colorectal Cancer Screening Fund
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Up to 90 percent of the colorectal cancer deaths can be prevented by timely removal of precancerous polyps. The most recent statistics from the National Polyp Study has found that screening colonoscopies have saved more lives per year than seatbelts, mammograms and pap smears combined.
The Sacred Heart Colorectal Cancer Screening Fund will provide colorectal cancer screenings for underserved men and women who live in Walton County and the surrounding areas who do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid and cannot afford the screening exam. Providing these screening colonoscopies will help save countless lives by identifying cancer in an early, preventable stage. The disease is treatable, beatable and preventable!
Sacred Heart Cancer Center and Services Expansion
Located in the Mack Bayou Center in Santa Rosa Beach, the new center will provide outpatient treatment services and offices for cancer specialists. With 12 semi-private chemotherapy infusion chairs, two private chemotherapy infusion beds, six patient exam rooms and an infusion pharmacy, the new center will enable Sacred Heart to provide quality service, comfort, privacy, convenience and safety to our patients.
The new building has twice the space of the existing offices on the campus of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. The cancer center will occupy the first floor of the new building and is expected to open in early 2012.
