digital graffiti at alys beach hosts THIRD annual visiting artist residency program Meet & Greet Sessions Set for Jan. 16 & 17   Alys Beach, FL — (Jan. 6, 2015) Award-winning artists from around the U.S. will venture to Alys Beach on 30A in Northwest Florida’s South Walton county Jan. 14-21, 2015 for the third annual Digital Graffiti Visiting Artist Residency program.   During the seven-day program, residency artists will reside under one roof and collaborate with curator Brett Phares to create individual pieces, which will be entered into the juried Digital Graffiti Festival to be held June 4-6, 2015.   The artists include Sean Capone of Brooklyn, N.Y., Andrew Demirjian of Palisades Park, N.J., Natalie Goldman of LaJolla, Calif., and Shantell Martin of New York, N.Y.   The public will have the opportunity to meet and interact with these award-winning artists during the residency and glimpse into their creative process. Meet & Greet sessions will be held Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the pedestrian paths of Alys Beach.   Additionally, a retrospective compilation of some of the most memorable artwork during the past seven Digital Graffiti festivals will be featured on the walls of Caliza Pool & Restaurant in Alys Beach during the evenings of the 30A Songwriters Festival, a weekend long music festival taking place in various venues along 30A.   Alys Beach and its groundbreaking event, Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach (DG), has led the way for the past seven years in bringing art and culture to Northwest Florida Gulf coast by providing a venue perfectly suited as a “blank canvas” for digital artists to showcase their original works.   In June, finalists will have their work projected after nightfall for three evenings on the iconic white walls, windows, doors and bridges of Alys Beach and will compete for $10,000 in cash prizes, including a $5,000 “Best of Show” award.   Last year, 29 artists representing 24 cities in 12 countries on four different continents competed during Digital Graffiti 2014 at Alys Beach. A panel of judges awarded prizes to seven winners hailing from the United States (Montana and Florida) and all over the globe including Canada, Austria, the United Kingdom and India.   “Site-specific work to Alys Beach is important to DG, the Residency enables us to bring artists from other parts of the world out to generate more of it,” says Digital Graffiti curator Brett Phares. “We have had work at the festival that was strong, but once projected onto a particular wall, really came alive, and it ended up earning Best of Show.”   For more information on the event, email events@alysbeach.com, call (toll-free) at (866) 481-8390 or visit digitalgraffiti.com.                                                                                                                                                Photography: Link to representative high res images of some of the winning 2014 art here.
