arsonhouseSuspected Arson Fire in South Walton (Santa Rosa Beach) – The South Walton Fire District (SWFD) received a call early this morning at about 2:30 a.m. reporting a structure fire at 2275 Mack Bayou Road in Santa Rosa Beach, FL.  Within minutes of receiving the initial 9-1-1 call, SWFD crews arrived on scene and reported smoke and flames coming from the front porch side of the uninhabited 2,300 sq. ft. two story residential structure. Shortly after arrival, SWFD crews managed to extinguish the fire and contain the majority of the damage to the first floor.   The SWFD Fire Marshal/Investigator and the State of Florida Fire Marshal Detective were notified to determine cause and origin. During their joint investigation it was determined that arson appeared to be the cause of the fire. Several neighbors stated that this residence has been uninhabited for at least a year. As of this release, the fire is still under investigation.  SWFD initially responded to this incident with 2 Truck Companies, 1 Engine Company, 1 Squad, 2 Rescues and 1 District Chief.    According to the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office report the property is currently valued at $350,000 and the fire/smoke damage was estimated to be $50,000. There were no injuries to report.  Anyone that may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact Sammy Sanchez, Fire Marshal South Walton Fire District at 850-267-1298. In addition, the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office (FSFMO) is offering up to $5,000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this fire.
