Since the event’s inception in 1995, Harbor Docks has taken approximately 6,650 children out on the waters.   Children between the ages of 7 and 13 arrived at Harbor Docks bright and early Sunday morning in time to see the sunrise and get assigned to their boats. Children and parents were greeted with breakfast of 79 dozen donuts and orange juice. 40 local charter boats donated their time and efforts for an unforgettable day of free fishing on the Gulf of Mexico and the Choctawhatchee Bay with children from all over the panhandle. Off-duty policemen, firemen and Harbor Docks Charities volunteers acted as chaperones, and graciously donated their time.   It was the first time out on the water for most of the children, while others always look forward to the annual event. While on board, the beginning anglers learned tips on how to fish, boating safety and the impact that our local Gulf Coast seafood industry has on the entire nation.   “This is Destin at it’s best,” Charles Morgan said. “Today there are no arguments over traffic, development, taxes or politics. This is what we are about as a town and it makes me proud to live here.” Morgan said.   After an exciting day of fishing, Harbor Docks treated the kids and their families to a fish fry where they enjoyed fresh caught fried fish, baked beans and coleslaw. All participating children received a Harbor Docks t-shirt along with a fishing rod and reel to remember their spectacular day of fishing.
